bird is the word

I have a ‘love/hate’ relationship with birds, different birds draw up different emotions…just the thought of a chicken panics me, so too do swans with their long necks – they give me the hee-bee-jee-bee’s.

However, little plump robins and puffed up new chicks make me smile.

My new project stems from my fascination with birds, the cuter varieties!
It’s in the early stages at the moment – collage and the drawn line.
With the idea to progress into textile pieces.

After reading an article in the new scientist magazine recently it has made me aware of how much birds are at risk in their habitats, as us humans continue to expand and multiply. Due to a rise in noise pollution in built up areas, birds are increasingly finding it difficult to make their songs stand out, particularly for the purpose of mating.

Birds whose songs were set at lower decibels are having to adjust their songs to be heard over the top of traffic and other city noises. Some birds are changing the time of day that they sing, to work around the noisiest times of the cities. But sadly some birds are choosing not to sing at all!

I don’t want to imagine a life without a dawn chorus!
